This course provides the basic foundations of the use of whole- body scalp holography acupuncture, also known as “Sock Monkey”, as used in Balance System Acupuncture also known as Balance Method.

You will learn the history of the Balance Method/System and an introductory history of Holography in Chinese medicine. You will also learn the basis of the logical processes for determining the channels and location to acupuncture, mapping of the whole-body holography, an easy-to-use format to outline the treatment plan, and how to apply quick, efficient and effective results.

Meet your instructor

Dr. Sonia Tan

Dr. Sonia F. Tan, BA, BA(H), DAOM, RAc, RTCMP, has been helping guide people on their pathway to health in the TCM world since 2006. She is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM degree), a Registered Acupuncturist, and a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner.

Dr. Sonia Tan obtained her clinical research Doctorate degree from Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles, California. She is also a graduate of the five year Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine program from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Vancouver. Dr. Sonia F. Tan is one of few certified Gold Level practitioners of the late Dr. Richard Tan. With the blessings of fellow senior students to pass on the Balance Method legacy, Dr. Sonia Tan developed and created the very first Balance Method / System Acupuncture Certificate program at an accredited public post-secondary institution – Langara College – launched in 2018. She continues this Balance System Acupuncture evolution, legacy and certification through the founding of her private school, the Tan Academy of Balance Inc, which is dedicated to education in the San Cai areas of Chinese Metaphysics & Classical Chinese medicine.

Dr. Sonia Tan is the author of The Foundations of Balance Acupuncture: A Clinical Reference Manual. In 2010, Sonia was honoured to be named and be a part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Medical Teams.

Furthering the depth of her Chinese herb knowledge, Dr. Sonia Tan studies with John Mini, LAc and various lineages in advanced Chinese herbal medicine strategies.

Dr. Sonia Tan has been teaching and keynote speaking at various conferences, institutions, and seminars since 2013. Sonia began her career in health with a Bachelor’s degree in Honors Kinesiology, with a specialization in Athletic Injuries, from Western University, Canada. While Following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Sonia is immersed in all aspects of Chinese Metaphysics, and thoroughly enjoys educating and inspiring about all things Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine!
